Here is the winner of the Zombie x Revolution photo competition - Ryan McCrae -congratulation's!!
I have also listed the second and third places and each photo has comments by Cooper Brownlee. FIRST PLACE:
Photo by Ryan McCrae - Rider Jono Hopping. I really enjoy this photo, colours are awesome and so is the lighting, looks dialed, at first I thought you could get in a little tighter with the fisheye but then you wouldnt see where he is landing and get the effect the roof gives you.
SECOUND PLACE:
Photo by Stephen Geddes - Rider Bevan
I love the red in this one, wallride looks good and kinda cool spot, just a little low on the lighting front, i dont know how many flashes were used but another one to the right of the cam would have dialed this in, just to light his face up a bit. still looks rad, the roof lights are effective to i think.
THIRD PLACE:
Photo by Ryan McCrae - Rider Jono Hopping.
I'm a sucker for b&w photos and the backyard mini looks rad to, timing is good I think on this, same with lighting, the angle is rad because you get to see most the ramp on the other side so you know what's going on, His legs do get lost a little in the tree's but sometimes you cant help that. backyard setups are awesome!
Thanks to everyone who submitted something to the photo competition and a special thanks to Cooper Brownlee of Focalpoint for judging the competition and his comments on each photo.
Now we have the photo comp under wraps we will be running a new competition very soon. So keep an eye out for that.
I apologize for the lack of updates and the that this site keens on blowing its bandwidth to shit!! Should be all fixed for now.. so plenty updates to come.
In other news.. I will be posting the winner of the photo competition tonight so keep an eye out for that.
And also don't forget about Optiki Jam happening this weekend, kicks of at 1pm.. more info here: www.zombiebmx.com/forum
The ZombieBMX X RevolutionNZ Photo Competition is officially over.
There was 15 pages of entries in total which is awesome, thanks to everyone who contributed.
Cooper from Focalpoint Magazine is going to have a flick through all the photos and pick the winner over the next few days. As soon as I find out who it is I will let everyone know. Till then hold tight!
Troy sent me an email on what went down at the Harewa Huckfest.. looks like it was a fun day all round, awesome weather, some good riding went down.. and that bowl looks amazing! I was a bit bummed I couldn't make it down.. someone through a brick through the windscreen of my car and couldnt get it fixed in time...
What went down from Troy: So the rain scared away most people even thought it ended up being a sunny as afternoon in Hawera. The boys from Otaki/Waikanae/Kapiti and Wanganui made the trip up and shredded with us locals. Highlights of the day were: Jono Orr winning the high jump (58 inches off a 1 foot kicker), Kendal killing street with a hole lot of grinds, rail rides and manuals, Jackie the young ripper also tearing it up, Liam from Wanganui 720ing the spine, Darren whipping the huge table in street, Kane Ohagan owning the spine with 720s, massive dipped 3's and 3 whips to name a few, and the boys with style and flow hucking around the bowl; Boof, Phil, Joe, Bonnie, Joel and Troy. Lots more went on that I missed or forgot so check out the full report at www.bmxmafia.co.nz
Also I have added the BMX Mafia site to my friends list, so make sure you check that regulary.
Here is some photos from Saturday morning at Vic park.. Alan Montwfiore and friend shredding in the rain.
I was also like to take this opportunity to say thanks to Alan for the huge help with getting the forums up and other little bits a pieces of web work he has help me with... its much appreciated Alan! thanks!
Check out this rad little mix tape Travis from EDH made of the Social Jam in Arrowtown.. looks like a fun time and there is definitely some good riding going on down that end of the country!
I just got an email from Mike at TripleSix letting me know that the new spring range of Shadow gear is just about to hit NZ.. get your pre-orders in at your closet BMX store.. s@$t's looking good!
Here is a updated flyer for the Opotiki Jam.. apparently the guys from Revolution are getting behind this so there should be a few prizes and giveaways.. choice!
Here is some photos of Paul Beadle, Paul Moffat and Davey Struthers riding Jam Wedge in Vancouver... Not sure who took the photos.. but thank you for letting me steal them!
The wedge, ledge and hop jam behind TripleSix has been postponed till further notice.. most likely to take place in April. The Helensville jam this weekend looks like it is going to go ahead, so if you live in Auckland you should make the quick drive out and support the jam!
In other news had a very interesting weekend, went out to the Woodhill dirt comp which was alright, on the way home stopped at the trails and Karl Bensemann's bike got stolen off the back of Lesters car... we managed to track it down who stole it with some help from some local kids.. in the end a bunch of police got involved, a pregnant girl ended up in handcuffs's and the whole thing resulted in a drug bust! crazy evening out in West Auckland.
Here's some more rad coverage from the Devonport Comp.
Luke.G sent in this killer photo of George Bolter boosting a tuck no-hander over the hip!
There is a bunch of good photos on a Flickr, here is a few I picked out:
Photos in order are: Mark 'Ewok' Davis with and abubaca on the sub, The Wazman text book table, Louis Bolters H-Plant transfer, George Bolter boost over the hip, Omri turndown over the pyramid.
The Devonport comp was definitely a success, everyone seemed to have a great time and enjoyed them self, and I was stocked with the amount of riders who put the effort in to compete in the event..... So with out a doubt I think we will definitely be looking at running this event again, bigger and better next time, I'm thinking we could add some vertwalls, sub boxes, wall rides, grind boxes and a fly out step up to the park.. what do you? Any ideas let me know!
I remember when I first started riding in NZ, the only parts I could get from the local bike shop was Primo Tenderizer pedals and Odyssey Hazard 14mm freewheel hubs.. their was one shop that had profile SS hubs but they where over a $1000 for the set!... crazy.. Times have changed allot since then, most of the major BMX brands are available in any shop in NZ which is so rad. I'ts awesome to go from not even been able to get a decent brake cable to been able to get all sort of trick parts! Just have a look at what shops like T-Whites-Bikes, Revolution, Hedgehog, 02project and Madison Bike and sports are stocking these days....
All of these parts for example have just landed in the country and are available at all the shops I listed above. I'm strong believer in supporting the local scene and local shops.. so there is no reason to buy from the likes of places like DansComp these days.. Anyway enough from me..support NZ.. and go ride!
The Devonport comp took place on the weekend just been and it turned out to be a super rad event, the weather was perfect, the park is awesome, a good amount of riders and spectators turned up to show there support. Unfortunately I spent most of the time organizing and on the mic so I didn't really any riding photos.
There was allot of good riding that went down so here is a few highlights: -Jono Hopping Flipped the roller than is no bigger than 3 foot. -Andrew Lazer from Canada 180 nose wheeled from he mini, off the sub and into the shallow bowl, if you have ever been to Devo park that line is crazy! - Liam Marshall rode really well and his 2nd place was well deserved as he used the whole park and did as many tricks as possible. - George Bolter was back on his bike for the first time in about 3 months, the time off apparently had no effect on him as he totally killed it, his tuck no handlers over the big hip where sick! - Jaden leeming killed the 15's and under with 540's and whips, his older brother Seth also rode super well with tricks like downside whips to disasters to reverts! - Home town hero and pro comp rider Mark Ewok was definitely on form and shredded the entire park with lots of line a mad pocket airs! -Louis Bolter did a rad hand plant over the sub into the mini! - I also thought Daneil Tecktro rode really well.
So anyway it was an awesome comp and a choice day, big thanks to Kirk from Volucid, Jon from Northshore Council / In2It, Omri and Ryan from Hedgehog Takapuna, Steve from Holly Water and Pete for helping judge. Also to all the sponsors: Premium, Primo, Forgotten, Quiet Chaos, RedBull, Zion, TripleSix. Cheers Dudes!
I spotted this over at the revolution blog the other day, its the final plan for the Washington park in Christchurch, my first reaction to this pic was WTF!! seriously look how amazing that place is going to be. There is endless lines and will suit so many different styles of riding, just goes to show what a good council can produce! I love the blend between bowls and park... to a kinda real street feel with garden boxes and bricks... if its done by EDH jam this year its going to be killer!
I really really hope something like this gets built in Auckland one day!
Here is a rad little web vid of Kendall from the BMX Mafia crew I found on there webpage.. bmxmafia.co.nz, if you head over there web page it has a nice photo of the new Harewa park if you want know what to expect if you are heading to there jam this weekend coming.
