One of New Zealand's most well rounded and dialed riders, Kane O'Hagen has just been hook up with EDH Bike Co. That's some pretty rad news to here for both Kane and EDH.
As most of you know Caleb from Whangamata has been in the states from a while shredding PA Trails. He was nice enough to send a bunch of photos through to me of himself and Louis Bolter killing the trails. The photos are so rad and the trails are so epic I decided to make a quick little gallery with the photos HERE. Make sure you check them out, there is some seriously killer photos in there. Thanks for sending them in Caleb!
Here is a photo of Alan M at the bmx.co.nz vic park jam fliping the hip into the bowl corner. The correct word for this is Bananas!! The reason being not only is it pretty nuts to flip that hip but Alan didn't realize to after it was the wrong way or him to spin?
Last Friday night the Under Lights pump track race was suppose to take place but was rained out. So the guys at ABD have postponed it to this Friday coming. Check the flyer for full details. Should be a fun little event so make sure you come along.
Paul Langlands sent me through this photo of the new jumps he has been building in his back yard over the last week. They should be dialed in and ride able in a few weeks. Looks like its going to be a pretty fun setup. Paul also mention that he might be planning a dirt jam there for sometime in Novemeber which will be rad!
I also spotted these photos over at the Spoke Magazine Blog.. taken by Lester Perry.. looks like Lester is putting his new camera he got in Asia to good work. Hopefully we some more photos from the Lester in the future.
Here are some photos from the Dirt Bike Co web page that Piggy sent of his trails in the works.. looks like its going to be a rad chill spot for summer!
NEW JED JAM - MAINSTREET SESSION
Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Friday the 27th of November, Jed Mildon is holding a jam/comp in Taupo. This is going to be a little different the previous Jed Jams.. Horomatangi St is going to be completely blocked off for the day and Jed is currently constructing a 6ft take off to a 7ft transition landing into a 7ft quarter. So basically the event is going to be a box jump to quarter battle out.... which means it will be a a constant battle / elimination between riders till it is down to only two riders... and one winner.. sounds rad and should make for an amazing event. All ready there is a few confirmed international athletes for the event, and the whole thing is a lead up to Jed Jam 2010 which will take place in January next year.. which is going to be bigger an better than last years event.
I found this photo on my computer while looking for photos of Tim Hales, This is Luke from Tasmania, Luke was a really good friend of Tim's and lived with him in Melbourne. This photo was taken just before Tim's funeral.
Here is some photos fromt he high jump comp that took place at the bmx.co.nz jam last weekend. This was pretty gun to watch, Liam Marshall, Stephen Geddes and Alan Montefiore where the only riders that gave it a good go. Alan took out with a 8 foot boost. There is more photos up at bmx.co.nz. Big thanks to Ryan for organizing the event and Mike for 666 for the help and sponsors.
Lewis Parkinson sent in a few more photos of the Kapiti riders getting the shred on! These where taken at Otaki Park and Kanes house. Riders are Kane, Lewis, Matt and Selden, rad!
The much loved GreyLynn Mini Ramp looks like it might be up for a bit of a revamp, which is rad because its a super fun mini. These are the concept ideas, looks good!
EDIT: VIC PARK JAM TODAY
Saturday, September 12, 2009
EDIT: THE VIC PARK JAM IS ON TODAY, STARTS @ 1PM..
The weather is looking pretty grim out there today and no doubt the vic parks ramps will be soggy as hell. So the jam will be postponed to tomorrow, and its going to kick of about 1pm. Lets hope for good weather! see you there..1pm tomorrow! Keep an eye on bmx.co.nz for further information.
Here is a photo I shot of Piggy last weekend at the Beverland Trails, 20mins North West of Huntly.. Me and Fraser found the trails a little hard to get through on the BMX, they were a little bumpy and we keeped over jumping the third, still fun as hell none the less. .. Piggy on the other hand had them on lock down and did some killer 3's over a couple of the jumps. Its was a good day out in a very chill spot.
Martin B sent in these photos of some of the local shredders from Waihi Beach Skate Park.. its rad to see some decent air time in there, that table over the spine is gnarly.. that thing is so f!#ked to jump! White tshirt is Skot Davey, grey top is Richard West
Random fact: Waihi has two of the oldest bowls in NZ and one of them is the first bowl ever built in NZ.
Looks like there might be a bit of rain this Saturday, so the plan is.. if it rains on Saturday the jam will be run on Sunday. Ryan from BMX.co.nz is the main organizer behind the jam.. so keep an eye out on their site for info!
Check out the BMX Mafia web page.. there is a good write up there from the D1NZ jam along with some photos. There is also some rad trials pics up and looks like Kendal got himself a pretty rad Camera and editing set up!.. so I guess we can expect to see some web vids from the Mafia boys. Check this web vid Kendall edited from the Harewa Huck Fest.. super nice, looks like it was a fun day and that bowl looks amazing. Cant wait to get down there for a ride this summer.
Heres a quick update to show you what Iv been up to; I haven't been slackin; iv been hauling a large format camera around the country side to take these "tilt shift" miniature photos for tec. Theres other photos of jono aswell; and for those of you who watched the bail vid of jono of volucid here the sequence i got of it; the photos makes me cringe.
They guys from BMX.co.nz have organized a jam at Victoria park this weekend coming, Sat 12th. Its going to be a pretty casual jam.. not a comp. A get together of riders before the park is gone. There will be a long jump, high jump (on the box) and best 1/4 pipe trick comp on the day with prizes and giveaways from Triplesix, Primo and WeThePeople. Should be a fun day out! Kicks of at 2pm..
Sam Minnell email flicked me an email the other day, he recently dropped his Olympus DLSR and it totally got wrecked, so he has be messing around his film camera and the results are pretty rad. The riding photos are of Asher and Eddie.
You can find more photos from Sam at www.samminnell.com Thanks for send in the photos Sam!
On Friday the 25th of September ABD will be holding a pump track race called 'under lights'. The event is tacking place at the ABD pump track, which is 25 Levene Place, Mt Wellington, Auckland. As far as I know all bikes are welcome , MTB and BMX. It kicks of at 6pm and will run to 9pm. There will alos be a free BBQ and the new 2010 ABD bike will be on display. This should be a pretty fun event and well worth a watch so come along if you can make it!
Not sure how many of you guys are into Twitter out there but Triple Six NZ has just signed up. So you can now keep an eye on when new arrivals, deals, product highlights, jams/events are happening from 666.
Mike L from Triplesix found this vid and sent it in. Its of the 3Ride Van City Street Jam that took place last weekend. Check it out, there is a bunch of clips of Louis Bolter shredding including a banger rail as the last clip, rad!
Haimona sent in this photo the other day of the aftermath from a pretty bad crash at Vic. He was jumping one of the hips a clip his tire on the back wall causing him to go face first into the gnarly asphalt. He also blamed the crash on day dreaming about girls and warns riders to make sure your concentrating on riding and not a hot set of legs that just walked past the park.
Oh yea.. and whoever the riders where that helped him out and called the abulance, Haimona says thanks!! and he owes you some pressies!!! (free burger fuel maybe?)
NZ rider Scott Morley sent in some photos of his trip to Canada.. he has been riding a bunch with Louis and George and is hopefully going to stay there for about a year if all goes to plan. Looks like he is having a fun time over there, the weather and scenery looks pretty good!, thanks for sending the photos in Scott, look forward to seeing some more.
THE FUTURE OF VICTORIA SKATE PARK
Tuesday, September 1, 2009
A bunch of people have been asking questions about what's going on with Victoria Park.. so here is the deal:
Last Thursday I attended a meeting about the future of Victoria Skate park where a Vic Skate Park advisory group was formed, which consists of myself, Haimona, and 4 skaters.
In 5 weeks or so the skate park will be removed as the land is needed for the new motorway tunnel. At this stage it looks like we may temporarily relocate the park or at least some of the park so we have somewhere to ride. The really good news is that there is going to be a brand new park built, the location is still to be confirmed but it may be the corner of Victoria, Beaumont and College Hill.
We all agreed the the park needs to be of substantial size and quality as it will be the main park for Auckland and will be classed as an international park. The size of the skate park is to be no less than 2100sq mts, which means it could be bigger! To put that into perspective thisis 2600sq mts, so we are looking at getting a pretty big park.
The other good news is that the plans for the new park should be finalized in 6-8weeks and construction will start straight away. It will be frustrating if they get rid of the current skate park and don't temporarily relocate the ramps. But we have to remember it's only temporary as we will be getting a new, bigger, better park! So I don't think going with out a park for a short period of time is a big deal if we know something good is on the way.
So that's the news so far.. if you have any questions feel free to ask.. or if you have any input let me know! I am attending a few more meetings in the next few weeks so I will keep you all posted on what’s going on.
In other related news there is planes for a final Vic Park jam in the works already, including a race through the city.
